Who Is Jackie?

picture of Jackie in profileI started my training at 16 here in Maryland. After one year, balancing school and an apprenticeship became too difficult and I was forced to stop my cosmetology courses. After graduating from Sandy Spring Friend’s School in 1998, I moved to Wisconsin to attend Beloit College. I began to notice that there were very few salons in the area. Friends began to ask me for haircuts, and so I took up my scissors and began to practice. In October of 2000, I moved to London to attend the Vidal Sassoon School of Hairdressing. London taught me more about hair in 10 months then I had ever learned before. Years of playing around with people’s hair gave me confidence, but it was the Sassoon training I recieved that lent structure, shape and balance to my work. I also took courses in Wella Color while attending Sassoon. Wella is a beautiful pre-blended permanent color from Germany, and it’s what I use now in my studio.

After I moved back to Maryland, I worked at Salon Jam in Takoma Park for 2 years before moving over to Aveda Bethesda. While at Aveda, I learned about Redken Shades EQ, a semi-permanent color line with beautiful shine, and subtle color enhancment. After departing from Aveda Bethesda in January of 2005, I took a few months off to travel and explore my options. In June of 2005, I opened my studio at Lux. I’m happier than I’ve ever been with my career. Lux is beautiful, modern, with a laid back atmosphere and plenty of privicy. If you would like to see pictures of Lux, please visit Lux Studios. The website is designed for staff members, or those interested in renting space, but it has some wonderful pictures. I hope to see you there.

All my Best,
Jackie
